Plan the mounting location so the unit is supported by a solid structure and has room for full travel, hose routing, and future service access. Keep it out of bilge water and away from places that routinely flood, and allow clearance to inspect fittings and fasteners after sea trials.
Hydraulic steering work usually involves proper bleeding and leak checks. After installation, cycle the steering and autopilot drive through its range while watching for air in the system and rechecking all connections under load.
Electrical and system integration
