Overview
The Garmin inReach Mini 2 is a compact satellite communicator for boating and other off-grid trips where cell service drops out. It lets you send and receive two-way messages, share your location, and trigger an interactive SOS to a 24/7 staffed emergency response coordination center when things go sideways (an active satellite subscription is required for satellite communication features).
On a boat it fits easily at the helm or in a life jacket pocket at 3.90 in x 2.04 in x 1.03 in and 3.5 oz. It is water-rated to IPX7 and built to handle knocks and vibration. Battery life is rated up to 14 days at the default 10-minute tracking interval, or up to 30 days with a 30-minute interval.
Key features
- Two-way messaging over the Iridium satellite network, so you can keep in touch beyond coastal cell coverage (subscription required).
- Interactive SOS with two-way communication, plus your position can be shared through your MapShare page or embedded in messages.
- IPX7 water rating for rain, spray, and the kind of wet handling that happens on deck.
- Up to 14 days of battery life at 10-minute tracking, or up to 30 days at 30-minute tracking for longer passages and trips.
- TracBack routing and an onboard digital compass for basic navigation and heading, even when you are not moving.
- USB-C interface and wireless connectivity (Bluetooth and ANT+) for pairing with compatible devices.
- Small footprint (3.90 in x 2.04 in x 1.03 in) and light weight (3.5 oz) for grab-and-go safety gear.
Variants
This product is offered in multiple configurations based on edition and color.
The Standard edition focuses on the handheld unit for portable use, while the Marine Bundle adds helm-friendly mounting and 12V power accessories. Color options listed here are Flame Red and Black.
- 010-02602-30: Marine Bundle, Flame Red. Includes a marine mount and a 12V power cable so the unit can live at the helm and stay powered on longer runs.
- 010-02602-00: Standard, Flame Red. A straightforward handheld setup that comes with a carabiner for clipping to a PFD, belt, or grab bag.
- 010-02602-01: Standard, Black. Same Standard edition format in Black for a lower-visibility look on deck and in the cockpit.
On-board use and setup
For everyday boating, the usual workflow is to keep the unit charged, set tracking to match your trip length, and share your MapShare link with the people who need to see your progress. Weather requests are useful before a long leg, and two-way messaging makes it easier to coordinate pickups or check in when the marina Wi-Fi is not happening.
This is a good match for skippers who run offshore, anglers who fish away from towers, and anyone who wants a compact way to check in from a tender, kayak, or paddleboard that leaves the mothership behind.
Compatibility and fit
Confirm you have room for a small handheld (3.90 in tall) where you want to stow it or mount it. If you plan to use it with your phone, make sure your onboard routine allows for pairing and keeping your phone charged, since messaging and planning are commonly handled through the companion app when you want a larger screen.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
