Overview
The Raymarine E70196 is a converter kit that feeds GPS and GNSS position data from a SeaTalkNG backbone to an older DSC VHF radio that still needs an NMEA 0183 position input. It runs on 9 to 16 V DC with a nominal 12 V supply, and the converter body is rated IPX6 for wet marine use.
This kit fits boats that already have SeaTalkNG electronics in place but still rely on a VHF with isolated NMEA 0183 wiring. It lets the radio receive position data needed for DSC calling and distress functions without replacing the radio or reworking the whole network.
Key features
- Feeds GPS and GNSS position data from SeaTalkNG to an older DSC VHF over NMEA 0183
- Built for isolated NMEA 0183 VHF connections on existing marine systems
- Operates on 9 to 16 V DC with a nominal 12 V supply
- IPX6-rated converter body for helm, console, and electronics locker installations
- Connection layout includes two SeaTalkNG backbone ports, two SeaTalkNG spur ports, and one NMEA 0183 spur connection
- Supplied as a complete installation kit with power lead, spur cable, adapter cable, blanking plugs, and backbone terminators
Compatibility and fit
This kit is intended for older DSC VHF radios that need a two-wire NMEA 0183 position feed from the network side. It works well when the chartplotter, GPS source, or other instruments are already sharing data on SeaTalkNG, but the radio has not been updated to SeaTalkNG or NMEA 2000.
It is a practical match for refits on cruising boats, center consoles, and pilot house boats where the existing VHF is still in service and only needs reliable position data from the current network.
Installation and setup
The stripped-end adapter cable connects to the radio's NMEA 0183 input pair, while the supplied power lead and spur cable handle the SeaTalkNG side. Older DSC radios commonly expect position data at 4800 baud, so the radio's NMEA 0183 input settings should be checked during setup.
The converter measures 109.45 mm wide, 30.2 mm high, and 21.45 mm deep, which helps when planning space behind a helm panel or inside an electronics locker. The included backbone terminators and blanking plugs also help close out a small SeaTalkNG run correctly when this kit is used as a dedicated branch for the radio.
