Overview
The Raymarine Magnum 4 kW is a 4 kW X-band magnetron open array radar for Raymarine multifunction displays, built for captains who need longer range and better target separation than a compact radome can usually deliver. The 4 kW Magnum range is available with a 4-foot or 6-foot open array and reaches up to 72 nautical miles, making it a practical fit for coastal cruising, offshore fishing, night approaches, and weather watching from the helm.
This radar works with Raymarine Axiom displays and a range of compatible legacy Raymarine multifunction displays. It uses a horizontal polarization radar beam, a 9405 MHz transmit frequency, 24 RPM or 48 RPM rotation, and an IPx6 waterproof rating for exposed mounting on a hardtop, radar arch, tower, or mast location that can support an open array scanner.
Key features
- 4 kW magnetron radar output with a maximum range scale of 72 nautical miles for long-distance awareness.
- Available with a 4-foot or 6-foot open array, giving installers a clear choice between a shorter array footprint and narrower horizontal beamwidth.
- 4-foot array has a nominal horizontal beamwidth of 1.85 degrees, while the 6-foot array has a nominal horizontal beamwidth of 1.15 degrees for finer bearing separation.
- IPx6 waterproof rating supports exposed topside installation where spray, rain, and washdown are part of normal boat use.
- Compatible with Raymarine Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom XL, Axiom 2 XL, and several earlier Raymarine MFD families.
- Bird Mode helps identify sea birds up to 10 nautical miles, useful for offshore and coastal anglers tracking surface activity.
- True Trails shows target history on moving contacts, helping the skipper read traffic motion more naturally during crossing and passing situations.
- Fully automatic MARPA target acquisition and tracking are available when the radar is paired with the required heading data.
- Typical power consumption is less than 70 W, with standby below 30 W and sleep mode below 1.2 W.
Variants
The Raymarine Magnum 4 kW range is offered in radar pack configurations and as a pedestal-only option. The main differences are the included configuration and whether the setup uses a 4-foot array, a 6-foot array, or no array.
The 4 kW radar platform, core radar functions, display compatibility, and environmental ratings stay within the same Magnum 4 kW family. Array length affects the physical footprint and nominal horizontal beamwidth, so the mounting location and desired target separation should be checked before installation.
- T70408: Radar Pack with 4Ft array length. This configuration includes the 4-foot open array setup, a good match where the mounting area has limited space but the boat still needs open array radar performance.
- T70410: Radar Pack with 6Ft array length. This configuration uses the longer 6-foot array, which reduces nominal horizontal beamwidth for more precise bearing separation when space allows.
- E70484: Pedestal Only with no array length. This option is for installations where the 4 kW Magnum pedestal is needed separately and the array is handled as a separate component.
Installation and setup
The Magnum 4 kW is a topside radar scanner and should be mounted where the rotating array has clear movement, solid support, and an unobstructed view around the vessel. The pedestal height is 430 mm, with a base length of 409 mm and width of 314 mm, while the array length is 1306 mm for the 4-foot version and 1918 mm for the 6-foot version.
Because this is an open array radar, the installer should confirm the mounting surface, cable route, power arrangement, and display compatibility before fitting it to the boat. Allow room for service access and keep the scanner clear of people, rigging, antennas, and other equipment that could interfere with rotation or radar performance.
Compatibility and use on board
This radar suits boats that already run Raymarine navigation electronics or are being upgraded around a Raymarine MFD helm. It is useful for skippers who want better awareness of land, vessels, rain, and moving targets during early starts, night runs, offshore passages, or poor visibility.
Anglers can use the Bird Mode feature to help locate bird activity tied to bait and fish, while cruising and commercial users benefit from the open array format, target trails, and MARPA functions when interpreting traffic and changing conditions around the vessel.
Environmental and operating notes
The Magnum 4 kW radar is rated for operation from -25°C to +55°C and for relative humidity up to 95 percent at 35°C. It is also rated for maximum wind speed of 85 knots, which matters for permanent exposed mounting on hardtops, arches, towers, and flybridges.
Warm-up time is 75 seconds, and the transition from standby to transmit is 2.5 seconds. These details are useful at the helm because radar is often brought online before leaving the dock, entering traffic, or approaching weather.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
