Overview

The Simrad XSONIC SS164 is a 1 kW 50/200 kHz stainless steel through-hull transducer that reads depth and water temperature from one compact sensor.

The low-profile body sits close to the hull, with less than 6.35 mm (0.25 in) extending outside, which helps keep drag down and reduces the chance of contact on trailer bunks and rollers.

It is built for boats that run at speed, with accurate data up to 30 knots when installed in clean, solid water flow. The built-in tilt options help keep the sonar beam closer to vertical without relying on a fairing block.

Key features
  • Traditional 50 kHz and 200 kHz operation with 1 kW output
  • Depth and temperature in one through-hull sensor
  • Low-profile housing with less than 6.35 mm (0.25 in) outside the hull
  • Accurate readings at speeds up to 30 knots when mounted in clean water flow
  • Rated for bottom and structure fishing up to 500 m (1640 ft)
  • Compact physical size: 134 mm diameter x 118 mm height; 2.7 kg (6 lb)
  • 9-pin transducer connector for compatible Simrad sounder ports
Variants

This transducer is offered with different built-in tilt angles to match common hull deadrise ranges.

The tilt angle is what changes between versions. The core function stays the same across the range: 50/200 kHz operation, 1 kW output, depth and temperature sensing, and a low-profile stainless steel through-hull body.

  • 000-13916-001: 0 degree tilt. Suited to mounting areas with a 0 to 7 degree hull deadrise where the hull is close to flat at the transducer location.
  • 000-13917-001: 12 degree tilt. Suited to a 8 to 15 degree hull deadrise, helping keep the beam closer to vertical without added external fairing height.
  • 000-13918-001: 20 degree tilt. Suited to a 16 to 24 degree hull deadrise on deeper-V hull sections where a fixed tilt helps maintain clean bottom tracking.
Compatibility and fit

This is a through-hull installation with a stainless steel housing that is commonly selected for metal-hull boats. Confirm hull material, thickness at the mounting area, and below-deck clearance for tightening and cable routing before cutting.

Your sounder needs to support a 1 kW 50/200 kHz transducer. Connection is through a 9-pin transducer plug, so match the plug style to your display or sounder module and plan any adapters before installation.

Installation and setup

Plan the install around a spot that stays in solid water at speed and sits clear of strakes, steps, intakes, and other fittings that introduce air. Good placement is a big part of getting steady depth at cruise.

As with any through-hull, the job includes drilling, bedding, and sealing so the hull stays watertight. The low-profile exterior makes it a good fit for boats that spend time on a trailer, but it still benefits from careful sealing and periodic checks.

Use on board

This transducer fits smaller sportfishing and light commercial boats up to 25 ft that want traditional 50/200 kHz sonar in a low-profile through-hull. The 200 kHz channel is commonly used for sharper target detail in shallower water, while 50 kHz is used for stronger bottom tracking as depth increases.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
