Overview

The Simrad 000-15445-002 is a Pump-3 MK2 reversible hydraulic autopilot pump for 12V DC steering systems, rated at 1.6 L/min (98 cu in/min) and intended for hydraulic cylinders in the 160 to 550 cc range.

It sits between the autopilot computer and your hydraulic steering circuit, pushing fluid in either direction to drive the cylinder when you engage autopilot steering. It is commonly used on boats up to about 50 ft when paired with a compatible Simrad autopilot computer.

Key features
  • 12V DC reversible hydraulic gear pump for autopilot steering control
  • Flow rate: 1.6 L/min (98 cu in/min) for responsive course corrections on mid-size hydraulic systems
  • Supports cylinder displacement from 160 to 550 cc (9.8 to 33.5 cu in)
  • O-Ring Boss (ORB) ports for clean, leak-resistant hydraulic connections
  • Includes 3 x ORB-5 to 9/16 UNF fittings for common marine steering plumbing
  • Works with Simrad NAC-3 or AC42 autopilot computers and supports SteadySteer setups
  • Specified for installations on boats up to 50 ft when the full steering and autopilot system is correctly sized
Compatibility and fit

Match the pump to your steering cylinder displacement before ordering. This unit is sized for cylinders between 160 and 550 cc, which covers many hydraulic rams found on larger outboards, stern drives, and inboard boats.

This pump is one part of a complete autopilot system and requires a compatible Simrad autopilot computer (NAC-3 or AC42) to control direction and operation. It is not a standalone steering component.

Installation and setup

Mount the pump in a dry location with airflow and access for service, then keep hydraulic runs as short as practical to help steering response and simplify bleeding. Avoid placing it where it will see constant spray, bilge water, or direct engine heat.

The hydraulic ports use ORB sealing, so the seal is made at the O-ring rather than on the threads. Keep O-rings clean, start fittings by hand to avoid cross-threading, and tighten evenly.

After plumbing, bleed the steering circuit completely and confirm there are no leaks under load before relying on the autopilot away from the dock.

On-board use

This pump is a common match for coastal cruising and sportfishing boats with hydraulic steering that need autopilot control for long runs, trolling, or holding a steady course in chop. It also fits larger center consoles and small to mid-size cruisers that fall within the listed cylinder range and boat-size guidance.

What's included
  • PUMP-3 MK2 reversible hydraulic pump (12V)
  • 3 x ORB-5 to 9/16 UNF fittings
Maintenance and care

Recheck hydraulic fittings after the first few outings and inspect periodically for seepage. Keep the pump body and electrical connections free of salt buildup, and address hose or cable chafe early so small rub points do not turn into leaks.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
