Overview

The Garmin GMR xHD3 is a 4 kW dome radar with a 48 nm maximum range that runs on 11 to 32 V DC and connects to a compatible Garmin chartplotter or MFD through the Garmin Marine Network. It is available in 18 inch and 24 inch radome sizes and carries an IPX7 water rating.

On the screen, you can run split-screen dual range, overlay radar on your chart, and use features like scan averaging and target-size processing to keep returns readable when sea clutter and interference start to build. Rotation speeds up to 60 rpm help keep target updates moving fast, which matters when you are threading a busy channel or tracking a squall line.

Anglers can use bird detection with Auto Bird Gain, and skippers who want tracking tools can use MARPA target tracking for up to 30 targets when a suitable heading sensor is on the system. This radar is a good match for boats already built around a Garmin networked helm and for crews who want one antenna to cover close-quarters work and longer-range awareness.

Key features
  • 4 kW transmit power with 48 nm maximum range and 20 m minimum range
  • 11 to 32 V DC input for 12 V and 24 V systems
  • Typical power draw: 15 W standby and 40 W transmitting (normal mode)
  • Up to 60 rpm antenna rotation for quicker target updates
  • Split-screen dual range plus radar overlay on compatible displays
  • Scan averaging, dynamic auto gain, and dynamic sea filter to manage clutter as conditions change
  • True echo trails for motion history on targets
  • Auto Bird Gain and bird detection for finding surface activity
  • MARPA target tracking for up to 30 targets (requires an appropriate heading sensor)
  • Guard zone alarms and range/bearing cues for quick situational checks
  • IPX7 water rating for incidental water exposure
Variants

This radar dome is offered in multiple configurations based on radome size.

The size option changes the physical footprint, antenna length, and horizontal beam width. Core electrical specs and feature set remain the same across the 18 inch and 24 inch versions, including 4 kW output, 48 nm maximum range, and 11 to 32 V DC power input.

  • 010-02841-00: Size 18" (20" x 9.8", 7.0 kg, 17" antenna length, 5.2° horizontal beam width). This option keeps the mounting footprint smaller on hardtops, arches, and sailboat structures where space is limited.
  • 010-02842-00: Size 24" (25.4" x 9.8", 8.7 kg, 23" antenna length, 3.7° horizontal beam width). The narrower horizontal beam width can help separate targets more clearly at range on the display.
What’s included
  • GMR 18 or 24 xHD3 dome radar (depending on model selected)
  • Power cable (15 m / 49.21 ft)
  • Network cable (15 m / 49.21 ft)
  • Garmin Marine Network Adapter Cable Small (Male) to Large (15 cm)
  • Mounting hardware kit and template
  • Installation instructions
Installation and setup

Plan the mounting location so the radome has a clear view with minimal blockage from masts, spreaders, lights, and other hardware. The base should be flat and parallel to the vessel waterline, with structure underneath that can support the radar weight and vibration loads. On some hardtops, raising the radar helps keep the roof edge from shading the beam.

Keep clear of magnetic compasses by maintaining at least 1.1 m separation for the 18 inch model and 0.95 m for the 24 inch model. Route cables with chafe protection, seal deck penetrations with marine sealant, and secure the run so it will not work loose over time.

Electrical and network integration

Power is 11 to 32 V DC, with a typical 7.5 A fuse requirement on the supply. Standby draw is 15 W, and typical transmitting draw in normal mode is 40 W, so the radar can stay available without heavily loading the house system.

Network connection is through the Garmin Marine Network to a compatible chartplotter or MFD. Radar overlay and MARPA functions require appropriate sensors on the boat, and dual radar support allows redundancy when multiple radar sources are installed.

Maintenance and care

Rinse the radome with fresh water after salt use and keep the outer surface free of heavy grime that can hold salt. Periodically check mounting fasteners, cable condition, and strain relief points, especially after rough-weather runs or long trailering days.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
