Overview
The Hella Marine Bi-Color Navigation Light is a combined red and green bow light for 12V boats that need 2 nautical mile visibility.
It uses an incandescent 12V / 25W BAY15d bulb and mounts to a vertical surface. The housing is rated IP55 for spray and dust exposure, and it is built with UV and impact resistant plastic for day-to-day life on deck.
This light carries common international approvals for navigation light compliance, including IMO Col Reg 72, USCG, ABYC A-16, and Maritime NZ.
Key features
- 2 nautical mile visibility bi-color (red/green) bow light for standard navigation light setups
- 12V incandescent lamp with 12V / 25W BAY15d bulb included
- IP55 protection rating for typical topside exposure and washdown spray
- UV and impact resistant plastic housing and lens
- Non-magnetic and saltwater resistant construction for use around compasses and marine electronics
- Housing snaps to the base without screws for quick access when servicing the bulb
- Cable entry through the base plate with a rubber grommet to help keep wiring tidy at the mount
- Vertically hanging bulb and upper contact position to reduce corrosion at the electrical contacts
Variants
This product is offered in multiple housing color options.
The housing color changes between variants. Key specifications remain the same across the range, including 12V incandescent operation, 2 nautical mile visibility, IP55 protection, and vertical surface mounting.
- 002984315: Black housing. A low-contrast look that blends into darker gelcoat, rub rails, and many modern bow profiles.
- 002984365: White housing. A clean match for white topsides and many traditional deck fittings.
What’s included
- Bi-color navigation light assembly
- 12V / 25W BAY15d bulb
Installation and setup
Mount the base on a vertical surface at the bow where the light has a clear view to port and starboard, then snap the housing onto the base. Route the supply wires through the base plate and rubber grommet, and support the cable so it is not pulling on the connection point in vibration or chop.
Confirm the lens orientation so red faces port and green faces starboard before final tightening. Use tinned marine wire and proper overcurrent protection sized for the circuit per your boat’s wiring plan.
Compatibility and fit
This style of bi-color light is a common choice for small powerboats and sailboats that use a single combined fixture on the bow instead of separate sidelights. If you are replacing an older incandescent unit, verify you have 12V power at the light and enough room at the mounting location for cable routing and service access.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt residue from the lens and housing during routine washdowns. If the light output drops or goes out, open the housing and replace the BAY15d bulb, then check that the contacts are clean and the cable grommet is seated properly.
