Overview
The Hella Marine 2984 series masthead navigation light is a 12V incandescent masthead light with 3 nautical mile visibility and an IP55 rating.
It mounts to a vertical surface and routes the cable through the base plate using a rubber grommet, which helps keep the wiring neat at the mounting point. The housing snaps onto the base without screws, so you can get to the bulb without fighting tiny fasteners on a bouncing dock.
Overall size is 108 mm high x 107 mm wide x 90 mm projection (about 4.25 in x 4.21 in x 3.54 in), which makes it easier to confirm clearance on a mast, cabin front, or hardtop.
Key features
- 12V incandescent masthead navigation light with 3 NM visibility
- Uses a BAY15d base and includes a 12V / 25W BAY15d bulb
- IP55-rated enclosure for typical spray and washdowns
- Vertical surface mount with cable entry through the base plate via a rubber grommet
- Housing snaps to the base without screws for quick access during bulb changes
- UV and impact resistant plastic housing and lens, plus a non-magnetic, saltwater resistant build
- Vertically hanging bulb and high-positioned contacts to help reduce corrosion at the terminals
Variants
This masthead light is offered in multiple configurations that differ by housing color.
Across the range, the lens color is white and the core specs remain the same: 12V operation, a 12V / 25W BAY15d bulb (included), 3 NM visibility, IP55 protection, and the same overall mounting footprint.
- 002984305: Color: Black housing. Black housing can blend in on dark masts, hardtops, and radar arches without drawing attention.
- 002984355: Color: White housing. White housing tends to match white spars and cabin structures, keeping the light visually consistent with other deck fittings.
What’s included
- Masthead navigation light assembly
- 12V / 25W BAY15d incandescent bulb
Installation and wiring notes
Plan your mounting spot so the lamp sits upright and has a clean cable path into the structure. Feed the wire through the base and grommet, leave a small drip loop where practical, and seal any deck or cabin penetrations in the usual way for your boat. Tie it into a properly protected navigation-light circuit for a 12V DC system.
Compliance and on-board use
Approvals include IMO COLREG 72, USCG, and ABYC A-16. This is a practical match for boats that still run incandescent navigation lights and want a masthead lamp that is straightforward to service when a bulb eventually needs replacement.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt off the lens and housing during routine washdowns, and keep the lens free of haze so the light output is not reduced. When you open the lamp for a bulb change, check that the cable grommet is seated and that the contacts are clean and dry before snapping the housing back onto the base.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
