Overview
The Hella Marine Slim Line square LED courtesy lamp is a low-profile light for steps, companionways, and other walk-through areas where you want guidance lighting without turning on the main cabin lights.
It is rated IP67 for spray and washdowns, and it draws very little power at less than 0.5W (under 0.042A on 12V, under 0.02A on 24V). The square face measures 60 mm across with about 16 mm of mounting depth behind the panel, which helps when you are working with tight clearances.
The lamp comes pre-wired with 120 mm of cable and uses screw mounting on a flat surface with a gasket. Wiring is straightforward: the colored conductor is positive and the black conductor is negative.
Key features
- IP67 protection with a sealed body for wet areas on board.
- Low current draw under 0.5W (under 0.042A at 12V, under 0.02A at 24V) for overnight courtesy circuits.
- Compact footprint with a 60 mm square face and about 16 mm depth behind the mounting surface.
- Pre-wired with 120 mm of cable to simplify installs in confined spaces.
- Polarity conscious wiring; reverse polarity will not damage the lamp but it will not light.
- Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 2A maximum.
- Dimming support through the Hella Marine dimmer 5XA 998 572-001.
Variants
This lamp is offered in two voltage options to match common DC systems on board.
Physical size, mounting approach, and sealing stay consistent; the supply voltage and current draw are what change.
- 980580551: Voltage 12V. Suits standard 12V house and lighting circuits used on many trailer boats and sailboats.
- 980581551: Voltage 24V. Suits 24V DC systems often found on larger yachts and commercial boats.
Installation and setup
Mount the lamp on a flat surface using the gasket to keep the seal intact. The lens can be used as a drilling template for the mounting holes, then the bezel is fitted over the lens after the lamp is secured.
Electrical and system integration
Connect the colored lead to positive and the black lead to negative. Add overcurrent protection close to the supply, keeping the fuse at 2A maximum. For control, wire it into a courtesy-light switch circuit, or through a compatible dimmer when you want to tame the output at night.
For a clean install in lockers and coamings, soldered connections with heat-shrink sealing hold up better in vibration and damp spaces than open crimp joints.
What's included
- Slim Line square LED courtesy lamp, pre-wired with 120 mm cable
- Mounting gasket
- Bezel/rim
Use on board
This style of lamp works well for stair treads, cockpit steps, companionway surrounds, and under-gunwale lighting where you want footing visibility without flooding the area with light. It is a good match for boats that see night docking and early departures, especially when you need a sealed fixture that does not add much load to the house bank.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
