Overview
The i2Systems Ember E1150 is a recessed step and courtesy light that snaps into a 1.25 inch (32 mm) cutout and runs on 9 to 30V DC or 9 to 15V AC. It draws 1.5W typical (2.5W max) and produces 17 lumens typical at 3000K, giving you a low-level wash of light for moving around at night. The housing is sealed to an IP67 rating for damp areas and washdowns, while staying low-profile on the surface.
Plan for 0.85 inch (22 mm) mounting depth behind the panel. Round and square trims measure 1.80 inches (46 mm) across the face, while the oval trim extends to 2.30 inches (58 mm). Wiring is straightforward with short 6 inch twisted 18 AWG leads for power plus a dedicated dimming control lead, which keeps the install tidy in tight stair risers, cockpit coamings, and cabin joinery.
Key features
- Wide input range: 9 to 30V DC (12V or 24V systems) or 9 to 15V AC from a low-voltage transformer
- 1.5W typical load (2.5W max) for easy circuit planning when installing multiple step lights
- 17 lumens typical at 3000K for low-level pathway lighting that stays comfortable at night
- IP67 sealing for damp lockers, cockpit steps, and other exposed mounting locations
- Asymmetric light distribution that throws across the step surface while keeping glare down
- Snap-in mounting into a 1.25 inch (32 mm) hole with 0.85 inch (22 mm) depth requirement
- Stainless steel trim with anodized aluminum housing and a polycarbonate lens
- 0 to 100% dimming capability using the dimming control lead with compatible controllers
Variants
This light is offered with different bezel shapes, trim finishes, and LED colors to match the look of your boat and the way you use each space.
Across the E1150Z snap-in range, the electrical input and the 1.25 inch cutout stay consistent, while the bezel shape changes the visible trim (round, square, or oval) and the finish changes the appearance at the panel. LED color options in this range include cool white (6500K), warm white (3000K), blue, and red.
Installation and setup
Drill or hole-saw the cutout, feed the leads, and snap the fixture into place. The snap clips accommodate panel thickness from 0.125 to 0.625 inches, which covers most fiberglass liners and joinery panels.
For wet or washdown locations, keep splices and connectors protected and avoid mounting where standing water can sit against the back of the fixture. IP67 sealing handles spray and rinse, but it is not meant for continuous submersion.
Electrical and system integration
Use it on 12V or 24V DC systems, or on 9 to 15V AC lighting circuits fed by a transformer. The separate dimming control lead supports 0 to 100% dimming with compatible dimming interfaces, which is useful when you want brighter output for boarding and a lower level at anchor.
Use cases on board
It fits well on companionway steps, cockpit stairs, side-deck transitions, and toe-kick areas under cabinets where you want light on the surface rather than in your eyes. It is a good match for boats adding multiple low-draw lights on a shared circuit while keeping wiring and cutouts consistent across the install.
Maintenance and care
Rinse salt off the trim during routine washdowns and avoid abrasive pads on the bezel finish. If the lens gets hazy, clean it with mild soap and water to keep the light output even.
