Overview
The i2Systems Apeiron A3101 Downlight is a recessed, screw-mount LED downlight for 9-30V DC systems, built around a stainless steel face and an IP67-rated seal for wet marine spaces. White-LED output is 2.5W with a typical 78 lumens, and the range is offered in warm white (3000K) or cool white (6500K).
Fit is straightforward for refits: a 2.15 in (55 mm) cutout, about 1.07 in (27 mm) mounting depth behind the panel, and a 3.50 in (89 mm) front face. Power is on the red and black leads, with a third yellow control lead available when you want dimming integration.
Key features
- Runs on 9-30V DC for common 12V and 24V boat systems.
- 2.5W white-LED downlight with typical 78-lumen output.
- Warm white (3000K) and cool white (6500K) options within the series.
- IP67-rated sealing for damp areas and washdowns, with stainless steel construction.
- Screw-mount installation with a removable bezel; 55 mm cutout and about 27 mm depth behind the surface.
- 18 in twisted 18 AWG leads: red (+), black (-), plus a yellow dimming control lead when used.
- Electrical protection features include transient protection and reverse polarity protection.
Variants
This downlight is offered in multiple configurations that vary by LED color and trim finish.
Across the options listed here, the electrical input (9-30V DC), white-LED power draw (2.5W), typical output (78 lumens), sealing level (IP67), and core fit dimensions (55 mm cutout, about 27 mm depth, 89 mm face) remain consistent. The visible differences are the finish and whether the light is warm white (3000K) or cool white (6500K).
- A3101Z-11A08N: LED color cool white (6500K), finish chrome. The cooler tone reads crisp in task areas like a helm, galley, or utility spaces.
- A3101Z-11CAB: LED color warm white (3000K), finish chrome. The warmer tone keeps interior woods, fabrics, and surfaces looking natural at night.
- A3101Z-31A08N: LED color cool white (6500K), finish white. A white trim blends into headliners and painted panels while keeping the light tone clean and sharp.
- A3101Z-31CAB: LED color warm white (3000K), finish white. A white trim keeps the fixture visually quiet while warm white supports relaxed cabin lighting.
Installation and setup
This is a recessed, screw-mount fixture. Plan the mounting location around the 55 mm cutout and allow roughly 27 mm of clearance behind the panel for the body and wiring. The 89 mm face covers the cutout edge, which helps in refits where the previous opening is not perfectly clean.
In wet or damp mounting locations, seal around the fixture and any nearby junction points so moisture cannot collect in wiring cavities. The IP67 rating supports exposed marine use, but it should not be placed where standing water can sit against the fixture.
Electrical and dimming integration
Wire the red lead to your 9-30V DC feed and the black lead to common ground. The yellow lead is used for dimming control when paired with compatible LightLink dimmers. The LL-101 momentary switch dimmer supports up to 20 Apeiron fixtures on one dimming run, and the LL-105-R 0-10V bridge and dimmer supports up to 50 fixtures, making it practical to group multiple downlights into a single lighting zone.
Materials and exposure
The face hardware is stainless steel, with finish options that include a chrome trim and a white coated trim. The lens is tempered glass with a diffuser, which helps spread the light without visible LED points. For saltwater boats, a quick freshwater rinse and a wipe-down after heavy spray helps keep the finish looking clean.
Use on board
This size and mounting depth work well for general lighting in cabins, heads, companionways, under hardtops, and sheltered cockpit areas where you want a small downlight that still holds up to vibration and washdowns. It is a good match for refits moving away from halogen loads, especially when you want dimming control without changing to a complex lighting network.
Maintenance and care
Clean the bezel and lens with mild soap and water and avoid abrasive pads that can scratch finishes. If the light is installed in a high-spray area, periodically check the sealant line and wiring entry points so moisture does not migrate into the back of the mounting surface.
