Overview

The Blue Sea Systems HD-Series is a range of heavy duty manual battery switches for high-current DC battery control on boats. These switches are built for 32V DC systems and are offered in single-circuit ON-OFF, 3-position selector, and 4-position selector configurations, with continuous ratings of 400A or 500A depending on the model.

This series is a practical fit for vessels that need a clear, mechanical way to isolate a battery, select between battery banks, or combine banks where the selected configuration supports that function. The HD-Series case can be mounted on the surface or behind a panel, accepts large 4/0 AWG battery cables, and uses 1/2 inch M12 terminal studs for high-current battery cabling.

AFD versions include Alternator Field Disconnect terminals, which help protect alternator diodes if the switch is turned to OFF while the engine is running. All listed configurations are ignition protected for use on gasoline powered boats and carry an IP66 rating for protection against heavy water spray.

Key features
  • 32V DC maximum voltage rating for common marine DC battery systems.
  • Available in single-circuit ON-OFF, 3-position selector, and 4-position selector layouts for different battery control needs.
  • Continuous current ratings of 400A on selector models and 500A on single-circuit ON-OFF models.
  • Ignition protected construction for installation aboard gasoline powered boats.
  • IP66 rating for locations exposed to spray, washdown, or damp compartments.
  • Case supports surface mounting or rear panel mounting, which helps with helm panels, battery compartments, and equipment lockers.
  • Accepts two 4/0 AWG battery cables, with 1.10 inch cable clearance for large battery conductors.
  • 1/2 inch M12 terminal studs and 220 in-lb terminal stud torque rating support secure high-current connections.
  • AFD-equipped versions are available for systems where alternator field disconnect protection is required.
Variants

This HD-Series battery switch range is offered in five configurations that differ by switch type, alternator field disconnect, and continuous current rating.

The shared construction includes a grey case, 32V DC maximum voltage rating, ignition protection, IP66 protection, surface or rear panel mounting, 1/4 inch M6 mounting holes, and support for large 4/0 AWG battery cable connections. The selector versions are rated at 400A continuous, while the single-circuit ON-OFF versions are rated at 500A continuous.

  • 11003: Selector 3 Position, Alternator Field Disconnect Yes, Continuous Rating 400A. This version switches isolated battery banks to all loads and includes AFD terminals for alternator protection in systems that require it.
  • 3000: Single Circuit ON-OFF, Alternator Field Disconnect No, Continuous Rating 500A. This version switches one battery to one load group and suits a straightforward battery isolation layout.
  • 3001: Single Circuit ON-OFF, Alternator Field Disconnect Yes, Continuous Rating 500A. This version keeps the simple ON-OFF layout and adds AFD terminals for installations where alternator field disconnect is part of the wiring plan.
  • 3002: Selector 4 Position, Alternator Field Disconnect No, Continuous Rating 400A. This version switches between isolated battery banks and also supports combining battery banks to all loads.
  • 3003: Selector 4 Position, Alternator Field Disconnect Yes, Continuous Rating 400A. This version combines the 4-position selector layout with AFD terminals for battery-bank selection systems that also need alternator protection.
Installation and fit

The case can be mounted on the face of a panel or from behind the panel, which gives more flexibility when laying out a battery compartment, engine room bulkhead, helm electrical panel, or service locker. The mounting holes accept 1/4 inch M6 screws, and the large terminal studs call for careful cable routing so the conductors are supported and protected from strain.

The cable path should allow room for 4/0 AWG conductors and boots or covers used in the vessel installation. As with any high-current battery switch, final cable size, fuse protection, and conductor routing should match the vessel electrical design and applicable marine electrical standards.

Electrical and system integration

Single-circuit ON-OFF models are used when one battery or battery bank needs to feed one load group with a clear disconnect point. Selector models are used when the operator needs to select between battery banks, and the 4-position versions add a combine position for bringing two banks together through the switch.

For gasoline powered boats, ignition protection is an important fit detail when the switch is installed in spaces where fuel vapors may be present. The AFD versions are especially relevant for engine charging systems where protecting alternator diodes during accidental switch-off events matters.

Use cases on board

This switch range fits larger DC battery systems on cruising boats, fishing boats, workboats, and other vessels with high-current starting or house-bank loads. The 500A ON-OFF models suit simple battery isolation, while the selector models suit boats with two battery banks and a need for controlled bank selection.

It is a good match for owners and installers who want a manual battery switch with high current capacity, large-cable support, and clear configuration choices instead of a one-size-fits-all switch.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
