Overview

The Lumitec Typhoon is a through-hull LED underwater light with a bronze housing for 10-30V DC boats and an IP68 seal. White output is rated at 10,000+ measured lumens, with a 6500K color temperature and 70+ CRI.

It is available with either full-color RGBW or dual-color white/blue output, and it can be run from a standard on/off switch using timed toggles for mode changes. The light uses a modular cartridge with a tool-free end cap, which helps when service is needed without disturbing the thru-hull housing.

Fit is driven by the hull cutout: 3 in for the surface-mount bezel or 3.625 in for the flush bezel. The body is about 4 in (10.16 cm) in diameter and 5.125 in (13.01 cm) deep, and the mounting system accommodates hull thickness up to 3.25 in with the surface bezel or 3.75 in with the flush bezel.

Key features
  • 10,000+ measured lumens in white output, with a flood beam pattern
  • 10-30V DC input range, drawing up to 10A at 12V and 4.5A at 24V
  • IP68 rating for constant submersion and washdowns
  • Bronze housing with a tempered glass lens
  • Surface bezel uses a 3 in mounting hole; flush bezel uses a 3.625 in mounting hole
  • Mounting hardware supports hull thickness up to 3.25 in (surface) or 3.75 in (flush)
  • Internal relay supports a 3-wire setup with a low-current switch line of about 100 mA per light
  • Timed toggle control from a standard on/off switch, plus PLI compatibility for Lumitec digital lighting control modules
  • Built-in electrical protections including reverse polarity protection, surge protection, and ignition protection
  • Meets ABYC A16 standard
Variants

This light is offered in four configurations that vary by light color and required mounting hole size.

The mounting hole size corresponds to the bezel style: 3 in for the surface-mount bezel and 3.625 in for the flush bezel. Across the range, the electrical and output ratings are consistent at 10-30V DC, 10A at 12V (4.5A at 24V), and 10,000+ measured lumens in white output.

  • 101449: Light color RGBW with a 3 in mounting hole. RGBW supports full-color cycling and discrete color selection using timed power toggles on a standard switch.
  • 101448: Light color white/blue with a 3 in mounting hole. Dual-color modes toggle between white, blue, and a cross-fade effect from a standard switch.
  • 101451: Light color RGBW with a 3.625 in mounting hole. The flush bezel sits closer to the hull surface and uses the larger cutout size.
  • 101450: Light color white/blue with a 3.625 in mounting hole. The flush bezel version keeps the exterior profile low while retaining the same dual-color switching behavior.
Compatibility and fit

Plan the location so the light sits about 6 to 16 in below the waterline and clears trim tabs, rudders, and outboards through their full travel. The outside of the hull needs a flat area about 4.75 in in diameter around the hole so the bezel can seal properly, and the inside of the hull should have room for the threaded housing and for removing the cartridge. About 7.5 in of clearance from the inside hull surface is a practical target.

Common mounting areas include transoms, the side and back surfaces of engine brackets, and the underside of swim or dive platforms. Mounting on a running surface is typically avoided.

Installation and sealing

Installation follows a thru-hull style approach: drill the correct hole size, dry-fit the housing, then bed the bezel and the hull surface with a marine sealant before tightening the backing washer and threaded ring from inside the hull. Tighten evenly until sealant squeezes out around the bezel, clean up excess, and allow the sealant to cure fully before returning the boat to the water.

Electrical and control

With up to 10A per light on a 12V system, feed wiring and circuit protection should be sized to minimize voltage drop, especially when multiple lights share the same power source. Keeping total voltage drop to 3% or less at the light helps maintain full output.

Wiring can be done as a simple 2-wire feed, or as a 3-wire setup that separates the switched control line from the main power feed. In 3-wire mode, the switch line draws about 100 mA per light, reducing the current carried by helm switches and enabling PLI control with compatible digital lighting modules.

Materials and corrosion considerations

The bronze housing and tempered glass lens suit constant immersion, and the IP68 seal helps keep water out of the electronics. As with any metal fitting below the waterline, correct bonding practices and control of stray current matter, so periodic inspection of the installation area is part of normal upkeep.

Use on board

These lights cast a wide pool of light behind the boat for docking, swim platform use, and slow-speed night maneuvering. They are also commonly used on fishing boats where lighting up the water near the transom helps when working lines close to the boat.

This line fits boats that want a through-hull underwater light with a serviceable cartridge and a choice between RGBW or white/blue output, while matching an existing 3 in or 3.625 in cutout.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
