Overview

The Blue Sea Systems 8280 is a traditional metal dual bank battery management panel with three m-Series single circuit ON/OFF switches for the engine start circuit, the house circuit, and emergency parallel switching between both banks. It is rated for systems up to 48V DC, carries 300A continuously and 500A for 5 minutes, and puts the main battery switching functions in one panel instead of spreading separate switches around the boat.

This setup makes sense on boats that run a dedicated start battery and a separate house bank, where protecting electronics from engine-cranking voltage sag matters. The panel measures 6.25 x 7.50 inches and uses 3/8 inch-16 switch studs that accept M10 terminals, so cable termination and mounting space should be checked before installation.

The panel itself is built from 0.125 inch 5052-H32 aluminum with a chemical treatment and a graphite textured polyurethane finish. It is ignition protected for use aboard gasoline-powered boats when installed in a location where the front and back of the panel stay protected from water.

Key features
  • Three ON/OFF battery switches on one panel for house, start, and emergency parallel control
  • Separates the engine start circuit from house loads to help preserve cranking power and reduce voltage sag at electronics during engine starting
  • 48V DC maximum, 300A continuous rating, and 500A intermittent rating for 5 minutes
  • 0.125 inch 5052-H32 aluminum panel with chemical treatment and textured polyurethane finish
  • Ignition protected for installation aboard gasoline-powered boats
  • 6.25 x 7.50 inch panel size for compact mounting areas
  • 3/8 inch-16 terminal studs accept M10 cable terminals
Installation and setup

Mount the panel where both sides stay protected from spray, washdowns, and standing water. The rear needs room for battery cables and terminal access, and the switch studs are specified for 140 in-lb of torque. Disconnect the main positive connection at the batteries before any installation or service work.

Because battery cable lengths, fuse placement, and conductor size depend on the boat, this panel is best fitted as part of a planned DC system rather than as a simple cosmetic swap. On many boats, it is used near the helm, inside an electrical locker, or at the cabin entry where the switches can be reached quickly.

Compatibility and fit

The 8280 is a good match for boats with separate house and start banks that want manual isolation during normal use and a manual cross-connect for emergency starting. That layout is common on center consoles, small cruisers, workboats, and sailboats with a house bank that powers lights, refrigeration, electronics, or accessories while keeping the start battery in reserve.

If your boat regularly sees open weather or direct washdown at the mounting point, plan for shielding around the panel rather than leaving either face exposed. Check cable bend radius, terminal stack height, and panel cutout space before ordering so the switch studs and cable lugs have enough clearance behind the mounting surface.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
