Overview
The Simrad 000-14475-001 is a wireless handset that lets you control an RS40 or RS40-B fixed-mount VHF from around the boat, while the base radio stays installed at the helm or nav station.
It mirrors the RS40 display and keys so you can change channels, make calls, and access DSC functions from the handset. Range is up to 100 metres from the base station in open conditions, and the handset is rated IPX7 for use in wet cockpit and deck environments.
Charging is handled through an inductive cradle, so there are no exposed charging contacts to deal with in salty air. A full charge supports up to 8 hours of use, which works well when you are moving between cockpit, cabin, and bow but still need VHF control close by.
Key features
- Works with Simrad RS40 and RS40-B VHF radios that support wireless handset pairing
- Remote control of channels, calling, and DSC functions from the handset while the fixed-mount radio remains in place
- Up to 100-metre wireless range from the RS40 base station, with real-world coverage depending on layout and obstructions
- Handset rated IPX7, with an IPX7-rated cradle for installations where spray and washdowns are common
- Inductive charging with the included cradle for drop-in charging without exposed power connectors
- Up to 8 hours battery life on a full charge
- Supports multiple HS40 handsets on the same RS40 base station for on-board intercom use
Compatibility and fit
This handset is not a standalone VHF radio. It pairs with an RS40 or RS40-B base station and follows the radio’s setup for channels and DSC, which keeps operation consistent whether you are at the dash or walking the deck.
Installation and charging
The cradle charger connects to a 12 V DC negative-ground system and draws up to 0.5 A while charging. On 24 V boats, plan for a suitable DC-DC converter or a dedicated 12 V supply for the cradle circuit.
Mount the cradle where you naturally grab a mic, such as the helm, cockpit entry, or nav station. Inductive charging keeps day-to-day handling simple, especially on boats where exposed contacts tend to corrode over time.
Use on board
This setup makes sense for skippers who want the security and installation of a fixed-mount VHF but still need control while handling lines, working a fish, or moving around during a watch. On larger boats, additional handsets can keep crew communication practical without relying on shouting across the deck.
Maintenance and care
After saltwater use, a quick fresh-water rinse and a wipe-down help keep the keys and speaker area clean. Storing the handset in its cradle when not in use keeps it charged and reduces the chance of it bouncing around underway.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
