Overview
The Garmin 010-12852-00 is an NMEA 0183 with Audio cable that links a compatible GPSMAP chartplotter to NMEA 0183 equipment and to a stereo AUX input through an RCA connection.
The harness gives you one differential NMEA 0183 input and one differential NMEA 0183 output for tying in devices like a VHF radio, autopilot, or other NMEA 0183 talkers and listeners. The RCA lead carries left and right audio with a common return for typical stereo AUX inputs.
If your chartplotter is receiving sound over its HDMI input, that audio can be sent out to the stereo through this cable, keeping helm video and audio together without running a separate audio breakout.
Key features
- One differential NMEA 0183 input (Rx/A and Rx/B) and one differential NMEA 0183 output (Tx/A and Tx/B) in the same harness.
- RCA connector for stereo AUX input, with left, right, and audio common channels.
- Passes audio received on the chartplotter HDMI input out to the stereo through the RCA lead.
- Bare-wire leads for straightforward splices into existing NMEA 0183 wiring runs behind the helm.
- Dedicated conductors for ground and shield ground to help keep the installation clean in a busy electronics console.
- Additional alarm and accessory-on leads available for supported chartplotter functions.
Compatibility and fit
This cable is used on select Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters that support an NMEA 0183 with Audio harness, including models in the GPSMAP 8400/8600 series, GPSMAP 8x10, 8x12, 8x16, and GPSMAP 9000 series. Before buying, confirm your chartplotter has the matching accessory port and that your target device expects NMEA 0183, not NMEA 2000.
Installation and wiring notes
The NMEA 0183 conductors are provided as bare wires so you can splice directly to your existing network wiring behind the dash. Match transmit to receive and keep the polarity consistent, plus to plus and minus to minus, when connecting to a differential NMEA 0183 device.
Wire functions by color: NMEA 0183 Rx/A (In +) is white/orange and Rx/B (In -) is white. NMEA 0183 Tx/A (Out +) is gray and Tx/B (Out -) is pink. Ground is black and shield ground is brown, with extra leads for alarm (yellow) and accessory on (orange).
Route the cable where it will stay dry, secure it for strain relief, and seal splices with adhesive-lined heat shrink to avoid corrosion in a saltwater console.
Audio integration
Connect the RCA plug to an available AUX input on your stereo. Once connected, audio that comes into the chartplotter over HDMI can be played through the stereo speakers, which is useful when the helm display is also the source selector for entertainment.
Use on board
This is a practical add-on for boats that run a Garmin GPSMAP at the helm, still have NMEA 0183 devices on board, and want a simple way to feed stereo audio from the chartplotter. It fits well on fishing boats and cruisers where the stereo and navigation gear share the same console wiring space.
Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
