Overview
The Simrad 000-12186-001 is a dedicated radar control unit with an integrated 9-inch portrait display for running a Simrad radar scanner from its own screen and controls. It uses a 480 x 800 pixel display with high brightness for daylight helms, and it runs on 12 to 24 V DC with 11 W power consumption.
This unit is built to keep radar controls close at hand when your main MFD is busy with charts, sounder, or engine data. Radar scanners connect over Ethernet, and the unit also includes NMEA 2000 plus dual NMEA 0183 ports for tying in heading, position, speed, and AIS data that can improve radar overlay and tracking features.
Key features
- 9-inch portrait radar display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution
- 12 to 24 V DC input with 11 W power consumption for typical 12V or 24V boats
- IPX7 water-resistant rating with watertight rear connectors for exposed helm installs
- High screen brightness for clear viewing in direct sun
- Keypad and rotary dial with 8 direct-access menu keys for quick adjustments underway
- Ethernet connection for compatible Simrad radar scanners and multi-station networking
- Network connections include NMEA 2000 and two NMEA 0183 ports for sensor and device integration
- Mounts by bracket or flush in a dash for flexible helm layouts
Compatibility and fit
The R2009 works as a radar-only control display for compatible Simrad radar scanners, including HALO pulse compression, Broadband 3G and 4G, and HD Digital radar. A compatible radar scanner is required to use radar functions.
For MARPA target tracking, the system needs heading data from a compatible heading sensor on NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183. GPS and AIS inputs can also be shared over the same networks to support overlays and target information where available in the connected system.
Installation and wiring
You can bracket-mount it where you can reach the keypad easily, or flush-mount it for a clean console face. Overall unit size is 224.3 mm wide, 260.1 mm high, and 82.3 mm deep, with a product weight of 1.95 kg, so it fits well on center consoles and tighter dash spaces where a wide display is awkward.
Power it from your boat’s 12V or 24V DC supply, and plan cable routing for the Ethernet run to the radar scanner plus any NMEA 2000 backbone drop and NMEA 0183 connections you need. Leave enough clearance behind the dash for connectors and service access.
Network and sensor integration
Ethernet handles radar networking and supports installations with more than one control unit on board. NMEA 2000 and dual NMEA 0183 ports make it straightforward to bring in heading, speed, GPS position, and AIS data from existing marine electronics so the radar picture and tracking tools have the right reference information.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats that want a dedicated radar station at the helm, especially when the primary display is already committed to charting, sonar, or engine screens. It also fits well on sportfishing and offshore rigs where a quick knob-and-keypad adjustment matters when conditions get wet or bumpy.
Maintenance and care
The unit is rated for operation from -15°C to +55°C and is IPX7 water-resistant. For day-to-day care, rinse salt spray off the face and keys with fresh water as needed and wipe with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh cleaners that can haze the screen.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
