Overview
The Vimar 09971 is a surface mounting box that lets you install compatible Vimar modular devices on top of a bulkhead or panel when there is no recessed wall box behind it. It has an 84 x 84 mm footprint with a 43.5 mm depth, and it is used with 1 or 2 reduced-module Idea layouts and 2-module Eikon and Plana layouts when paired with the relevant mounting frames and cover plates.
The housing is plastic and halogen-free, with an IP20 rating for protected indoor locations. It includes two inlets sized for 20 or 25 mm tube runs, and the cover is secured with screws for service access. Rated insulation voltage is Ui 450 V, and the operating temperature range is 0 to 60 C.
On a boat, this type of box is typically used in cabins, nav stations, helm side panels, or other sheltered areas where you want a neat surface installation and front access for future maintenance. It is not weatherproof, so it should stay out of spray zones, washdowns, and bilge spaces.

Variants
This product is offered in two color options to match different cover plate finishes.
Both versions share the same footprint, depth, IP20 rating, and inlet sizing. The difference between them is the exterior color.
- VM09971.01: Color White. A clean white finish that blends well with modern interior panels and white cover plates.
- VM09971.A: Color Ivory. A warmer ivory finish, commonly referenced as RAL 9001, that suits classic interiors and traditional plate colors.
Compatibility and fit
This box is intended for surface mounting of Vimar modular devices that use the related mounting frames and cover plates in the Idea, Eikon, and Plana ranges. It supports 1 or 2 reduced-module Idea configurations and 2-module Eikon and Plana configurations; for Idea installations, Classica cover plates apply.
Because the enclosure is IP20 and not sealable, plan for a dry, protected mounting location and use appropriate chafe protection where cables enter the box. It is not suitable for underwater mounting or exposed exterior positions.
Installation and setup
Fasten the box to a flat surface on the bulkhead or overhead using hardware suited to the substrate, then route wiring through the inlets (20 or 25 mm tube runs) so conductors are supported and protected from vibration. Allow room inside the 43.5 mm depth for wire bend radius before fitting the mounting frame and cover plate.
The screwed cover makes it straightforward to reopen the enclosure for inspection or changes. If the location may see humidity or occasional drips, consider adding secondary protection around the device area, since the box itself is not weatherproof.
Use on board
This style of surface box is commonly used when adding a switch point or connection device on a cabin bulkhead where there is no cavity behind the panel. It also works well in consoles where you want a surface-mounted assembly and access from the front without opening the back of the structure.
It is a good match for boats already fitted with Vimar Idea, Eikon, or Plana components where keeping a consistent look across refit additions matters.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team.
