Overview
The Vimar Idea 16560 is a rotary dimmer for 230 V AC lighting circuits, rated for 100-500 W resistive loads such as incandescent lamps.
It uses a rotary potentiometer for smooth adjustment, with a control that stays easy to locate when the cabin is dark. This type of control is commonly fitted at switch panels in cabins and saloons where you want quick light trimming without adding extra controls.
The body is compact for panel installs, measuring 24.80 mm wide, 50.10 mm high, and 58.20 mm deep behind the mounting surface.
Key features
- 230 V AC, 50-60 Hz operation for onboard shore-power or inverter-fed AC lighting circuits
- 100-500 W rating for resistive incandescent loads
- Rotary potentiometer control for continuous brightness adjustment
- Control is visible in darkness for easier use at night
- Flush mounting with snap-in style fit for Vimar Idea installations
- Thermoplastic construction with a matt finish
Variants
This dimmer is offered in two color finishes so it can match the rest of the switchgear on board.
The stated difference between variants is the front color.
- VM16560.B: Color Ivory. The lighter finish suits warm-toned interiors and matching Idea cover plates.
- VM16560: Color Gray. The darker finish matches gray Idea plates and modern interior trim.
Compatibility and fit
This is a 230 V AC dimmer intended for resistive lighting loads. It is not a general-purpose controller for LED drivers, electronic transformers, motors, or other non-resistive loads unless those loads are specifically rated for use with this type of dimmer.
On a boat, it belongs in an interior location that stays dry and protected from direct spray. If it is mounted in a bulkhead that sees vibration, leave enough service loop and strain relief behind the panel so wiring movement does not transfer into the device.
Installation and setup
Plan for at least 58.20 mm of clear depth behind the mounting surface, plus space for wire bends. Power should be isolated at the AC distribution panel before wiring, and the circuit should be protected with appropriate overcurrent protection for the connected lighting load.
Use on board
This dimmer is a good match for vessels with 230 V incandescent interior lighting where you want a simple rotary control at the switch panel. It also works well in sleeping cabins where small adjustments at night matter.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
