Overview
The Vimar Idea 16563 is a flush-mounted 230 V AC dimmer for 100-500 W incandescent lamps, with push-push switching and rotary level control.
Operation is straightforward on board: press to turn the circuit on or off, then turn the knob to set light level. The control is identifiable in the dark, which helps when you are moving around the cabin at night without bringing up full lighting.
With an IP40 rating, it is meant for dry interior areas such as cabins, saloons, and protected helm or nav panels. The unit measures 24.8 mm wide, 50.1 mm high, and 58.2 mm deep, which helps when checking clearance behind panels and wall boxes.
Key features
- 230 V AC, 50-60 Hz dimming for 100-500 W incandescent loads
- Push-push switching with rotary potentiometer adjustment
- Visible in darkness for easier nighttime operation
- Flush-mounted format intended for Vimar Idea installations
- IP40 protection for dry interior mounting locations
- Plastic construction with compact body size (24.8 mm W x 50.1 mm H x 58.2 mm D)
- Two front-color options to match surrounding trim: Gray or Ivory
Variants
This dimmer is offered in two color configurations to match different interior finishes.
The variants listed below are differentiated by the visible color.
- VM16563 (Color: Gray). Works well in panels and cabins that use gray trim and hardware.
- VM16563.B (Color: Ivory). Blends with light-colored plates and liners commonly found in cabins and saloons.
Compatibility and fit
This unit is for 230 V AC lighting circuits and is specified for incandescent lamps within the 100-500 W range. Before ordering, confirm the supply voltage on board, the type of lamp load on the circuit, and that there is enough depth behind the mounting location for the 58.2 mm body.
Installation and setup
Plan the installation like any other onboard mains component: isolate shore power, generator, and inverter feeds before wiring. It is intended for flush mounting in an appropriate box or panel position, then finished with the matching Idea system trim used on the rest of the installation.
Use on board
This dimmer is a good match for boats that still run 230 V incandescent cabin or saloon lighting and want simple, local control at the bulkhead. Because the protection level is IP40, keep it out of spray zones and away from areas that see routine washdowns.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
