Overview

The Victron Energy Inverter VE.Direct 500VA 120V NEMA GFCI is a 500VA inverter for turning DC battery power into 120V AC power on boats and mobile power systems. It is offered for 12V, 24V, and 48V battery banks, with a GFCI-protected AC outlet and a VE.Direct port for monitoring and configuration with the proper Victron interface or Bluetooth dongle.

At the 500VA size, this inverter supplies 400W continuous power at 25°C, 350W at 40°C, and 900W peak power for starting loads that draw more at startup. The adjustable output is 120VAC at 50Hz or 60Hz, and the unit uses screw-terminal DC connections for a clean hardwired battery-side installation.

With an IP21 protection category, this inverter belongs in a dry, ventilated electrical space rather than an exposed cockpit, wet locker, or washdown area. It is a practical fit for running small 120V AC loads from a house battery bank, such as electronics chargers, small tools, entertainment gear, and other low-power onboard equipment within the inverter rating.

Variants

This inverter is offered in three battery-voltage configurations so it can be matched to the vessel’s DC system.

The battery voltage changes between variants. The 500VA inverter rating, 120V AC output, VE.Direct interface, GFCI outlet style, and general enclosure format remain consistent across these three configurations.

• PIN125010510: 12V battery voltage. This version matches boats with a 12V DC house bank while keeping the same 120V AC, 500VA VE.Direct GFCI inverter format.
• PIN245010510: 24V battery voltage. This version matches 24V DC systems often used where lower current draw on the DC side is useful for the same AC load range.
• PIN485010510: 48V battery voltage. This version matches 48V DC battery systems and keeps the same compact 500VA AC output class for smaller onboard loads.

Installation and setup

Install the inverter close enough to the battery bank to keep DC cable runs short, while still leaving space for ventilation and access to the terminals. The 500VA models accept up to 10mm² or AWG8 battery cable, and DC protection, cable sizing, grounding, and AC outlet use should follow the vessel’s electrical standards and local requirements.

The GFCI version has AC output neutral connected to chassis inside the unit by default so the GFCI can operate correctly. A qualified marine electrical installer should check the grounding and neutral arrangement as part of the installation, especially when the inverter is used alongside shore power, a generator, or other AC sources.

Electrical and system integration

The VE.Direct port is useful when the inverter needs more than a simple on/off setup. With the appropriate VE.Direct to USB interface or VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle, the installer or owner can view voltage, load, and alarm information and adjust inverter behavior for the battery bank and onboard loads.

This is a standalone inverter, so battery charging and AC source transfer are handled by separate equipment. For boats that need to switch AC loads between inverter power and another AC source, a proper transfer switch should be planned as part of the system design.

Use cases on board

This inverter makes sense for small AC loads on cruising boats, fishing boats, workboats, and sailboats that already have a DC house bank and only need limited 120V power away from shore. It is best kept for loads within its rating rather than heavy galley appliances, air conditioning, water heaters, or other equipment that demands far more continuous power.

The dry-location IP21 enclosure is a key fit point on a boat. It should be mounted where it is protected from spray and washdown water, with enough airflow to manage heat during longer AC use.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund.
