Overview

The Garmin 010-00705-64 is a 1.2 liter per minute hydraulic autopilot pump kit that drives the steering on compatible Garmin autopilot systems, including Reactor 40 installations. It moves hydraulic fluid through the steering lines at up to 1.2 L/min (0.32 gal/min), and the pump footprint is about 12.5 x 4.5 x 4.0 in (31.8 x 11.4 x 10.2 cm) for planning space.

This pump is commonly matched to balanced-cylinder hydraulic steering, and the steering system must have a vented reservoir. It is often used on single-cylinder setups in the 6 to 14 cubic inch total cylinder volume range, where the flow rate keeps steering response steady without oversizing the pump.

Key features
  • 1.2 L/min (0.32 gal/min) flow rate for hydraulic steering control with compatible Garmin autopilot systems
  • ORB hydraulic ports and threaded cable collars for a secure hydraulic and electrical connection at the pump
  • ORB -5 manifold connections with included ORB-5 to 3/8 in compression tube fittings for common marine tube runs
  • Physical size of about 12.5 x 4.5 x 4.0 in (31.8 x 11.4 x 10.2 cm) to help confirm mounting clearance
  • Pump-to-ECU cabling is fixed-length and the pump must be mounted within 19 in (0.5 m) of the ECU
  • Hydraulic connections use -4 (6 mm / 1/4 in ID) hose or larger, with hose and fittings rated for at least 1000 psi (6,895 kPa)

  • Installation mounting hardware
  • Three ORB-5 to 3/8 in compression marine tube fittings
Compatibility and fit

This pump is for hydraulic steering systems and must be used with Garmin autopilot systems that support the 1.2 L pump drive. Confirm your steering cylinder type and total cylinder volume before purchase, and make sure your system has a vented reservoir at the helm or reservoir cap.

This pump is not intended for unbalanced-cylinder steering systems. If you are unsure whether your cylinder is balanced or whether your reservoir is vented, verify those details on the boat before installation.

Installation and setup

Plan the mounting location first. The pump needs a place that stays dry and is protected from water and weather, and it must sit within 19 in (0.5 m) of the ECU because the pump cables cannot be extended.

Mount the pump horizontally when possible. If you must mount it vertically, the pump head connectors should face up. Keep the pump close to the steering cylinder so the hose run from the pump to the cylinder is no longer than 10 ft (3 m), and use -4 (6 mm / 1/4 in ID) hose or larger throughout the installation, including the return line.

For fittings that seal with an O-ring such as ORB and ORFS, do not use thread sealant. For fittings without an O-ring, use a liquid thread sealant and allow proper cure time. Avoid thread seal tape or putty on hydraulic connections to keep debris out of valves.

Use on board

Once installed and bled, the pump becomes the hydraulic muscle behind the autopilot, turning course corrections into smooth cylinder movement at the helm. It is a good match for owners setting up a Reactor 40 autopilot on a mid-size boat with single-cylinder hydraulic steering who want consistent steering response during coastal runs, long transits, and hands-on fishing days where steady heading control matters.

Maintenance and care

After installation, a light application of marine corrosion inhibitor on the pump body and manifold helps resist corrosion in damp lockers and engine-room environments. Recheck hydraulic fittings for seepage after the first few outings and anytime the system has been opened for service.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
