Overview
The i2Systems A503-14BBD is a 3W spring-mount recessed LED downlight with a square/square polished chrome bezel and a neutral white output (4000K). It runs on 9-30V DC for typical 12V and 24V boat systems, puts out about 150 lumens with a 120 degree beam, and carries an IP67 rating for wet locations and washdowns.
This size is commonly used as a general overhead light in cabins, heads, companionways, and pilothouses. The diffuser keeps the light even and reduces the “hot spot” look you get with some bare-LED fixtures, which helps in low ceilings and tight spaces.
Key features
- 3W output with about 150 lumens typical and a 120 degree beam angle for general interior lighting
- Neutral white 4000K LED color for a clean, natural look on board
- 9-30V DC input for both 12V and 24V systems
- IP67-rated for wet locations and washdowns; not intended for submersible mounting or areas with standing water
- Square/square bezel with polished chrome finish (PVD titanium) and stainless steel trim
- 3.15 in (80 mm) face size with a 2.44 in (62 mm) cutout requirement and about 1.37 in (35 mm) mounting depth
- 9 in lead length using 18 AWG conductors, plus a separate dimming control lead when used with compatible controls
- Built-in protection including surge suppression, reverse polarity protection, and an auto-reset fuse
Installation and setup
This light uses spring clips for mounting. Plan the cutout carefully and confirm you have enough clearance behind the panel for the housing depth, plus room for the wiring to bend without being pinched by the springs.
In damp areas, it is good practice to keep water from pooling around the back of the fixture and to seal any nearby wiring openings so moisture cannot collect in the cavity.
Electrical and dimming
Power is DC only. For basic on/off operation, wire the main power leads to your vessel’s lighting circuit and protect the circuit with the appropriate overcurrent protection for your installation.
If you are integrating dimming, use the dimming control lead as intended by your controller and keep the control line at or below 30V DC. Many onboard lighting systems that dim via PWM can drive the control input, so you can keep the same fixture style while moving from a simple switch to a dimmer later.
Materials and water exposure
The trim is stainless steel with an anodized aluminum housing, and the lens is tempered glass with a diffuser. The polished chrome finish is a PVD titanium coating, which helps it hold up in humid cabins and saltwater environments where plated finishes can discolor over time.
IP67 helps for spray and washdowns, but it should not be installed where it will sit underwater or in a location that can trap standing water.
Use cases on board
This configuration is a good fit when you want a clean neutral white overhead light and a square trim to match other interior hardware. It is commonly used in cabins, galleys, passageways, and enclosed helm areas where you want wide, even light without a narrow spotlight effect.
Maintenance and care
Wipe the bezel and lens with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads that can scratch the finish and reduce light clarity over time.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
