Overview
The Garmin 010-N2236-02 is a GPSMAP 86sci marine handheld that combines a 3-inch color display with inReach satellite messaging and preloaded BlueChart g3 coastal charts for the U.S.
It is waterproof to IPX7 and it floats, so it makes sense for open-cockpit use, a dinghy run to shore, or as a grab-and-go backup navigator. Battery runtime is up to 35 hours in 10-minute tracking mode, or up to 200 hours in expedition mode on the internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
On boats with compatible Garmin electronics, it can show streamed boat data and it can act as a remote for compatible Garmin autopilots and select Fusion marine products, which is handy when you want information or control away from the helm display.
Key features
- 3-inch transflective TFT color display (240 x 400) with button-based operation
- Preloaded BlueChart g3 coastal charts for the U.S., plus a worldwide basemap
- inReach two-way messaging, tracking, and interactive SOS through the Iridium satellite network (satellite subscription required)
- IPX7 water rating and a buoyant housing that floats if it goes overboard
- Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi, BLUETOOTH, and ANT+ for updates, syncing, and compatible accessories
- ABC sensors including a barometric altimeter and a tilt-compensated 3-axis electronic compass
- Physical size 2.65 x 7 x 1.7 inches; weight 9.59 oz (272 g)
- NMEA 0183 compatible interface for basic marine data sharing with compatible systems
Installation and setup
The powered mount is the clean way to keep it charged at the helm while still being able to pull the unit off the cradle in seconds. Route power so it is protected and supported for vibration, and keep connectors out of direct spray where possible.
For consistent satellite reception, avoid tucking the unit behind metal window frames or inside enclosed consoles when you are underway. If you plan to rely on inReach features, set up the service plan and run a quick message and tracking check before the next departure.
Navigation and charts
With BlueChart g3 U.S. coastal coverage onboard, you can reference marine chart detail without being tied to the main display. The adjustable GPS filter helps smooth speed and heading indications when the boat is moving through swell.
Connectivity and onboard integration
When paired with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments, the handheld can display key boat data so you can keep an eye on information from the cockpit or foredeck. Remote control support for compatible Garmin autopilots and select Fusion stereos adds useful control when you are not standing at the helm.
Use on board
This handheld suits skippers who want a backup navigator that can move between boats, anglers who run a tender away from the mothership, and crews who want two-way satellite messaging in a unit that lives in a ditch bag or daypack.

Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.
Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.
Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.
Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.
Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.
Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.
To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.
We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
