Overview

The Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Non-Isolated is a smart DC-DC battery charger and power-supply unit for dual-battery installations on boats, with 12 V and 24 V configurations covering 360 W and 400 W models. It charges a service battery from an alternator and start battery arrangement, which is useful on vessels where electronics, refrigeration, lighting, pumps, and other house loads need controlled charging while the engine is running.

This non-isolated Orion-Tr Smart range uses adaptive 3-stage charging with bulk, absorption, and float stages, and it can also run as a fixed-output power supply. Built-in Bluetooth allows setup and monitoring through VictronConnect, while remote on/off and engine running detection help manage charging behavior in marine electrical systems.

The range supports lead acid and lithium batteries, accepts model-specific 12 V or 24 V input, and includes output options of 12 V or 24 V at 15 A, 17 A, or 30 A. The enclosure measures 130 x 186 x 80 mm, with IP43 protection for the electronics when mounted with the screw terminals facing down and IP22 protection at the connection area.

Key features
  • Adaptive 3-stage charging with configurable battery charge behavior, plus a fixed-output option for power-supply use.
  • Built-in Bluetooth for setup, monitoring, and updates through VictronConnect without adding a separate data cable.
  • Works across 12 V and 24 V marine battery systems, with models for 12 to 12 V, 12 to 24 V, 24 to 12 V, and 24 to 24 V charging layouts.
  • Suitable for lead acid and lithium batteries, making the range useful for refits as well as new house-bank installations.
  • Remote on/off input and engine running detection support controlled charging from alternator-based systems.
  • Non-isolated construction suits systems where the input and output negative share a common ground.
  • Short-circuit proof output and support for parallel units when an installation calls for more output current.
  • Screw terminals accept cable up to 16 mm2, AWG6, which helps with voltage drop planning on longer boat cable runs.
  • Operating temperature range is -20 °C to +55 °C, with output derating above 40 °C.
Variants

This product is offered in four voltage and current configurations. The main differences are input voltage, output voltage, output current, and continuous output power.

Bluetooth configuration, adaptive charging, remote on/off, screw terminal connection, protection ratings, and enclosure size remain consistent across the variants. The 12/12, 12/24, and 24/12 versions are 360 W models, while the 24/24 version is the 400 W model.

  • ORI122436140: 12 V input, 24 V output, 15 A output current. This version steps a 12 V charging source up for a 24 V service bank.
  • ORI241236140: 24 V input, 12 V output, 30 A output current. This version charges a 12 V house bank from a 24 V start or alternator system.
  • ORI121236140: 12 V input, 12 V output, 30 A output current. This version regulates charging between same-nominal 12 V battery banks.
  • ORI242440140: 24 V input, 24 V output, 17 A output current. This version regulates charging between same-nominal 24 V battery banks and is the 400 W model in the group.
Installation and setup

Mount the charger in a location that stays protected from direct spray and allows air movement around the casing. For the stated IP43 electronics protection, install it with the screw terminals facing downward. Cable size, fuse placement, and overcurrent protection should be selected for the actual battery layout and run length on the vessel.

The unit is configured over Bluetooth with VictronConnect. Charge settings can be adjusted for the battery type in use, and the remote on/off connection can be tied into a switch or relay contact for installations where charging should follow ignition, engine state, or another control signal.

Compatibility and fit

This is the non-isolated version, so it belongs in DC systems where the input and output sides share a common negative. Installations that need galvanic isolation between battery banks require the isolated Orion-Tr category instead.

The Orion-Tr Smart range makes sense on boats with separate start and house banks, including cruising sailboats, fishing boats, workboats, and refits where a smart alternator or long cable run makes uncontrolled charging less predictable. It is not a VE.Direct device, so integration and setup are handled through Bluetooth rather than a VE.Direct port.

Shipping
We ship worldwide from the United States. Rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight. Some items include free shipping, which will show automatically. Not every product is eligible for international shipping; checkout will confirm eligibility. We do not ship to PO Boxes except through USPS, and not all packages qualify.

Processing and dispatch
Most orders are verified, packed, and handed to the carrier within 1 to 2 business days. Some products may need extra handling time or ship directly from the manufacturer. For certain international orders, inventory transfers between warehouses may add time. If any delay is expected, we will let you know the dispatch date.

Delivery and tracking
Deliveries are handled by trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Estimated arrival times appear at checkout and depend on your location and the service you choose. These are estimates and can be affected by customs or carrier disruptions. A shipping confirmation with a tracking link is emailed when your order ships, and tracking may take up to 24 hours to update. You can also view tracking in your account.

Duties, taxes, and support
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, and fees charged by the destination country. If these charges are refused and a shipment returns to us, the carrier’s return cost and any re-entry customs fees will be deducted from the refund. If your order is late or you need help, contact cs@qualityboatparts.com and we will assist you.

Quality Boat Parts is a reseller. Many items include a manufacturer’s warranty, and all warranty service is handled directly by the manufacturer. We do not manage or administer warranty claims on behalf of customers.

Warranty terms, coverage, and duration are set by each manufacturer. Issues involving defects, repairs, or replacements must be addressed with the manufacturer’s support team. When available, the warranty period is listed on the product page. If it is not shown, contact us or the manufacturer for details before purchasing.

To start a claim, the customer must contact the manufacturer and follow their process. Keep your proof of purchase and original packaging, and register the product if the manufacturer requires it, as these are often needed for warranty service.

We are happy to help you find the right contact or documentation, but we cannot decide outcomes or intervene in claim resolutions. For guidance, email cs@qualityboatparts.com.
